For a while, we didn't know what was up with Lagwagon. Between the releases of Lets Talk About Feelings and Blaze break-up rumors surfaced quite frequently. That was the closest I ever got to knowing how my parents must have felt during the Cold War. While my parents had to live with the uncertainty of whether Communist Russia was going to chuck a few nukes our way, for a few years I had to live with a certain level of uncertainty regarding the existence of Lagwagon. The release of Blaze dispelled those break-up rumors and the band has been touring pretty consistently since. I would love to see Lagwagon playing till they are 80, with somebody pushing their Kidney Dialysis machines behind them as they get on stage. That most likely won't be the case though, but for the moment we can all still revel in the existence of one of the greatest punk bands to ever walk the face of the earth. If Joey Cape went absolutely nuts tomorrow and broke the band up, I think this Live In A Dive album would be the perfect ending to their absolutely stellar career.

Lagwagon must have spent a fortune on mixing, because this record sounds absolutely perfect. While that takes away from the rawness of a live show just a tad, it really enhances a lot of early Lagwagon songs that weren't recorded so well the first time around. For example: The Trashed-Era songs they included. Island Of Shame , Stokin The Neighbors , Give It Back , and Coffee And Cigarettes , sound absolutely incredible. I was never a fan of the production on Hoss either, and the this Live In A Dive album definitely gave Razor Burn , Bombs Away , Sleep , Violins , and Sick a much needed kick in the ass as well. The rest of the disc spans Lagwagons career quite well, including 2 songs from Double Pladinum , 3 songs from Lets Talk About Feelings , 3 from Blaze , and one from Duh . The remaining 4 tracks contain 3 forgettable goof-ball songs, and one song called The Chemist that will only be on this Live In A Dive CD . The biggest highlight of this CD is definitely Dave Raun's drumming. He sounds better on this, than on any of the previous Lagwagon albums he has graced with his presence. If you are a punk rock drummer you might want to check this disc out solely based on that.

This album is essential for any Lagwagon fan. I don't think there will be another band that pulls this style of music off better than Lagwagon, as long as I am alive on this planet. Do yourself a favor and pick this up, as well as any other CD in Lagwagons back catalog.
